TOWER software

    The experience and methodology developed and adopted by Studio Topografico Fossati for transmission line design is based on integrated use of dedicate software as PLS_Cadd for tower spotting and PLS_Tower for structural modelling and relevant stress analysis of towers. Structural evaluations and analysis, in transmission line design, are possible for any loading condition taking into account new or updating loading assumptions, consequent loading trees, weather conditions, wind speeds and generally whole design criteria required by employer or fixed by international standards and codes.

    Summary of main steps to model a structure in Tower software:

  • Specialized program for the analysis and design of steel latticed towers

  • Linear and nonlinear finite element analysis options.

  • Databases of steel angles, rounds, bolts, guys, etc…..;

  • Generation of joints and members by symmetries and interpolations

  • Steel angles and rounds modeled either as truss, beam or tension-only elements
     
  • Calculation of tower dead weight, ice, and wind loads as well as drag coefficients according to various standards
     
  • Define the standards and codes from the available, for structure design and check (NESC, IEC 60826, IS 802, EN50341, CENELEC, ASCE 10-97...).
     
  • Determination of allowable wind and weight spans.
     
  • Determination of interaction diagrams between allowable wind and weight spans
     
  •  Optimum angle member size selection and bolt quantity determination
